My Story

I’ve carried a sense of awe and wonder of the natural world with me all my life. From early days of photographing clouds, to dyeing fabrics with berries and plants to painting.

First, slow down and see the details. The a carefully drawn image. Then, put some water on it, a drop of paint and  watch what happens, play, watch it move around. I love this unruliness. To finish I might drop some textile bits in to simulate feathers on a bird, ragged edges.

Acrylics offer deeper color, and layers of slightly different shades to convey depth and age and movement.  In nature, things aren’t flat or one-dimensional, they are complex and deep.  Larger canvases, larger brushes offer the challenge of saying more with fewer brush strokes, getting the essence of a flower, say, with a few strokes.

I am older now, but I will never lose my sense of play and joy that the earth offers.
